End of Summer

For many, Labor Day marks the end of summer. Kids in many areas of the country return to school next week. The 'air' of fall has begun to permeate the skies, with the sun leaning more toward the south; and a 'coolness' is returning. Leaves are beginning to fall already. Oh, how quickly the summer passed through. It seemed just yesterday that swimsuits were in the stores, and swimming pools were brimming with splashing kids. Now, both are preparing for Halloween. The colors of life are changing from vivid greens, pinks, purples, and blues - to the earthen hues of yellows, oranges, browns, and blacks.

Long-sleeved tops and slacks come out of the closets and drawers, and tank tops and shorts take their places.

Gardens and fields are being harvested. Canning is occurring in kitchens. People will begin to migrate from the outdoors to the indoors.

This is the time of year that many people feel their energy wane and their appetites fluctuate. With the onset of daylight savings and shorter days, their biological clock is thrown off kilter. They sleep a lot, and may have trouble getting up in the morning, or have bouts of depression. It could be the result of something called the Winter Blues, or Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
