Self-Healing - Pilates

The Pilates Method - mind and body unification through exercise. Developed almost a century ago, by German-born Joseph H. Pilates, this integrated exercise system combines yoga, gymnastics, weight training and breathing - specific breathing exercises are performed during each movement. These exercises are low-impact, and therefore well suited for most age and fitness levels, even pregnant and postnatal women, the elderly, and those recovering from some illnesses or injuries.

Precise exercise routines are performed in sequence, each movement designed to stretch and strengthen the muscles, to unite the body and the mind. They also stimulate the circulatory system, and help to improve posture, balance, and flexibility.

The Pilates Body - strengthening, lengthening and toning the body - without machines - reawakening the body through movement, and the mind through conscious thought. Centered and structured around the stomach, hips, lower back, and buttocks - the center of the body - the Pilates movements are instrumental in maintaining good posture and body alignment.

Use the power of the mind. While performing any one of the movements, pay attention to how those muscles respond; and while focusing on those muscles, note how much more you feel that particular area being worked on.

The Pilates Exercises - help to promote increased awareness of the body - focusing attention on each moment of exercise, rather than on obtaining an end result. This could account for the popularity of the Pilates Method. Most people find the repetition and routine of other exercises as boring.
